homemade baked beans

Serves 4



1 brown onion, chopped 

2 garlic cloves, chopped

1 tsp smoked paprika (optional) 

½ tsp ground cinnamon 

2 tbsp maple syrup

1 tbsp rosemary 

2 x 400g can butter beans, drained, rinsed

1 kg fresh tomatoes, chopped or 800g canned tomatoes 

Salt and pepper to taste 


Heat 1 tbsp oil in non-stick saucepan over medium heat and add onion. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until softened.


Add garlic and spices. Cook for further minute. 


Add remaining ingredients and simmer gently for 15 minutes.

Serve with toast and scrambled or poached eggs.
